The King of LeMans

The 24 Hours of LeMans is a motor sports endurance competition held annually in June at LeMans, France. Fifty-five cars carrying teams of three drivers each race over a combination of track and public road. The roads are closed for the event. At the end of the twenty-four hours the car that has been driven the most miles is the winner. The race is considered to be one of the world's most challenging and is a supreme test of both the driver and his machine. In spite of its rigors, Danish sports car driver, Tom Kristensen, has managed to score eight wins. Not only is Kristensen the only driver to finish first eight times but also six of these were consecutive, from 2000 to 2005.

When one considers that on any given day one hundred young drivers are competing in the motor sports 'minor leagues' such as the Formula Renault and the Formula Ford hoping for stardom on the track and a professional career as a driver, and that only four out of this hundred will realize that dream, Kristensen's accomplishments are remarkable indeed. Kristensen was born in 1967 in Hobro, Denmark. Racing was a part of his early life as his father, Carl Erik Kristensen, was a Danish Touring Car Champion. Tom began his racing career in 1984 in karting and won several karting titles, improving year by year. In 1985, he won the Nordic Champion Formula A. In 1986 he was runner-up in the European Karting Championship. In 1987 he was runner-up in the World Karting Championship.

Kristensen switched to car racing in 1987 when he entered the Formula Ford 2000 championship. In the 1990's he began competing in the Japanese racing circuit both in Formula 3 and touring cars Autel Maxidas DS808. In 1993 he placed first in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship and first in the Formula 3 World Cup Fuji. He entered and won his first LeMans title in 1997. Years later, when interviewed by a reporter, he was asked if he had a favorite memory. Tom replied that there were many but the 1997 win at LeMans "stands out." In 2000, he went to work as a professional driver for Audi. Also in 2000 he started his consecutive run of wins in the 24 Hours of LeMans ending in 2005 with six first place finishes. His eighth victory was in 2008.

Kristensen is noted for being a perfectionist. He constantly looks to improving his past performance as opposed to just winning. He says that although he regards racing as fun it is important to remain determined maxisys elite scan tool. Kristensen is also humble in face of his accomplishments. After the race at Hockenheim, he complimented the driver who had almost won, stating "In the end, I was able to perfectly understand Mattias' feelings because, at Brands Hatch in 2006, I was leading the race and was also deprived of victory by a technical reason." In his spare time, Tom collects watches. He has three children with his partner Hanne and the family lives in Denmark.

He is as passionate about parenthood as he is about racing.
